IF GIRL SPEAKS - A Youth Leadership Program

Mission: “To provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which young girls are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth. ”

The Youth Leadership Program is a workshop consisting of eight 75-minute sessions that enable young girls between the ages of 10 and 17 to develop their communication and leadership skills through practical experience. The program will be presented once weekly. In the workshop, young people will learn valuable skills including:

- Evaluating their own speaking ability
- Preparing and giving speeches
- Giving impromptu talks
- Controlling their voice, vocabulary and gestures
- Giving constructive feedback and more

Target Group: Girls ages 10 - 17 (5th grade to Middle School & High School)

Meeting Frequency: Once weekly on Saturdays. Time: 2:00pm to 3:15pm. Starting in October 2020

Medium and Venue: 

Based on the public health updates and state’s directives, we will meet virtually until when we can meet face to face.
The workshops are structured for small group learning. Meetings will generally follow a format with an announced agenda that includes practice in parliamentary procedure, prepared and impromptu speeches and the selection of presiding officers.
Upon completion, participants will earn a Youth Leadership Certificate.

“ Becoming An Author…..Be That Author ”

The workshop will encourage and educate girls (ages 8 -16 years) on the process of writing and publishing their manuscripts, reiterating the importance of reading, mentoring aspiring young authors, and providing adequate support through our sponsorship to publish at least a book.

A glance at the activities of the day: kick off with a keynote speaker, a panel discussion, workshop to educate the girls on the process of writing and publishing, and engaging the young ones to identify potential authors through the help of authors.
After the event, our follow-up process entails: a mentoring program, matching girls to authors who are willing to dedicate their time and resources to guide them through publishing at least a book.
